About

Agriculture is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock and has historically been one of the most significant industries in Australia. This course provides students with an opportunity to prepare for work in the horticulture industry. Students will learn to identify and manage plants and crops, as well as operate and maintain basic gardening machinery and tools.​

Entrance Requirements

Prior to enrolment all students must undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment. To be deemed suitable to undertake this course, it is recommended students should be:

  • Enrolled in Year 10 or above at the time of commencing the course; AND
  • Achieving the following ACSF levels: 
    • Learning 2
    • Reading 2
    • Writing 2
    • Oral Communication 2
    • Numeracy 2

Course Content

The qualification is comprised of the following 6 units of competency.

Core Units

  • AHCWRK101 Maintain the workplace
  • AHCWHS101 Work safely

Electives

  • AHCMOM101 Assist with routine maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • AHCPCM204 Recognise plants
  • AHCPHT215 Plant horticultural crops
  • AHCPHT101 Support horticultural production

Note: this course is currently only available via an Auspice arrangement. We encourage schools to express interest if they wish for SIDE RTO to deliver the course directly in future.

Duration

Delivery plans can be negotiated over 12, 18 or 24 months, depending on the year group and school.
